For the past two years, Helle have been working hard to make what they think is the ultimate all-round outdoor knife, a smaller sibling to the Nord.

Nordlys means Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) in Norwegian. Lys means both light and fair. This represents the Nord well. It preserves all the innovative features of its larger sibling, but packs it in a substantially smaller package. At 12.4 cm, the Nordlys handle is 1.3 cm shorter than on the Nord, but you still have the space for a forward grip for finer cuts and a pommel grip when chopping.

The blade is also the same shape as its larger sibling, featuring a slight drop-point and a classic scandi grind. It is notably shorter though – at 12.2 cm it is roughly the same length as most Norwegian all-round outdoor knives. The blade is 3.1 mm thick and made out of the very tough and stainless 14C28N Alleima steel. The overall weight of the Nordlys therefore clocks in at only 210 grams, which means that you are left with a very balanced and lightweight knife for being a full tang knife.
